Letter written to the Mattawa Town Council
Here’s a letter written to the Mattawa Town Council on behalf of the Mattawa & Area Snowmobile Club: Do you not think the Province’s added measures to reduce travel by closing accommodations wasn’t enough to reduce the flow of visitor’s? It sure was apparent that it did this last weekend.
The repercussions of your decision to ask the Health Unit to close the trails has now impacted the local citizen’s and business’s more than anyone else.
Since the community has turned the revenue tap off to many of our local Business’s are we (as a community) covering their taxes while they’re shut down?
What about the employee’s that would rather earn an income than take a handout from the government. Are you going to apologise to them for the added stress we (as a community) have inflicted on them? (we hire 3 to 4 local men a year)
Wouldn’t have enforcement been a better avenue to use at the time than a delayed sledge hammer approach after?
As a volunteer giving hundreds of hr’s annually to the Snowmobile Club so it can bring added revenue to this town during the winter months. It shock’s me that the relationship between the two of us isn’t closer since the wellbeing of one has a direct impact on the other.(Lucy was making strides to improve this though) The Town has spent a lot of money in festivals to bring added revenue to the community and the Snowmobile Club and the OFSC does it for free and generates a lot more.
A cheque for 30,000 was recently given to the Township of Papineau Cameron for the rehabilitation of Archambeault Rd that included a snowmobile trail on the side of it. It was a pleasure to work with them to stretch tax payers money further and make things safer for years to come.
Two local access road bridges are to be replaced this year at no cost to tax payer’s for year round safe enjoyment, paid for by us and the OFSC.
We also bring many here that later look at Mattawa as a place to retire.
A local business owner told me once, “if business’s are doing well and updating their rooms and premises then I’m doing well”.
Mayor and Council we are here to help you prosper don’t look at it any other way.
Work with us.
